It's old but useful to understand about HTTP cookies.
HTML Tag Quick Reference Guide
You need to know which HTML tag has url attribute so you can substitute it.
Regular Expression Library
Regular Expression is the way to go for link substitution, if you choose it.

You also need some kind of HTTP protocol sniffer. It will help a lot to understand what kind of transaction happen behind a browser request to a website.
