Upgrade Plan E-mail
Friday, 18 May 2007
It's almost end of the month and since we have Avatar performed as we expected we are going to have a bandwidth upgrade soon. Right now we are running on 10Mbps dedicated full duplex premium bandwidth and it's pretty much maxed out on peak time. We know where to get a 100Mbps dedicated at bargain price but it's still cost too much for now, so we will start with a 20-30 Mbps :D

After researching for days we found that we have two choice for bandwidth upgrade. First is to get a cheap bargain shared unmetered connection with some drawback like poor speed quality, no service level guarantee, and it's slow for user from outside US. The second one is to get a premium bandwidth like we are using right now but it cost a fortune. As a comparison between the two: 100Mbps will cost $599 and $ 2299 respectively.
Since we want you to have the best service, we are going for the second one. After the parser change, Avatar didn't need top of the line hardware to run. It's now only using 5-15% CPU power during peak time and barely touch 2% on non-peak time on current server. So we plan to get a slower machine with 100Mbps network connection. The saving we get from downgrading the server should be enough to cover double our current bandwidth usage.
